Police in Thessalon, Ont., have charged a 23-year-old following an incident March 31 in which a parent was forced to flee their own home.

Ontario Provincial Police responded at 8:30 a.m. to a family dispute on Frances Street in the community.

“A parent, who had removed themselves from the residence for safety reasons, contacted police requesting assistance in removing their adult child from the home,” OPP said in a news release April 2.

“The parent reported obvious signs of drug use, significant damage to the property and that the adult child had locked the doors.”

Officers forced their way inside the residence and arrested the 23-year-old son. He was taken to hospital in Blind River for an assessment and then released back to police custody.

The Thessalon resident is charged with mischief under $5,000, resisting arrest and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on April 1 and was remanded into custody.
