An investigation that began in November has resulted in historic sexual assault charges for crimes committed in Attawapiskat First Nation and Moosonee between 1971 and 1994.

The ages of the three victims range from age four to 17, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service’s crime unit said in a news release Friday.

“Members of the NAPS crime unit continue to investigate and believe there may be more victims who have yet to come forward,” police said.

The 67-year-old suspect was arrested March 18 and charged with three counts each of indecent assault and gross indecency, two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation.

Could be more victims

He appeared for a bail hearing March 19 and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.

Anyone who may be a victim of the assaults, or who has information that could help the investigation, is asked to call investigators at (705) 272-5600, ext. 103, or send an email to Tanner.Charette@naps.ca or Bradley.Skrzypek@naps.ca.
