Northern Ont. impaired driving suspect accused of hitting two parked cars

Published:

Efforts to reduce impaired driving in the northeast seem to be working in some communities – provincial police say stats are still high.

Patrol officers charged a northern Ontario man with impaired driving after witnessing him hit two parked cars in Temiskaming Shores last month, police said.

The officers were patrolling Highway 65 East around 2:40 p.m. Feb. 20 when they saw the collisions involving two vehicles parked at a business, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday morning.

A 28-year-old man from Englehart – a community more than 50 kilometers north – was arrested and taken to the detachment for further testing.

He was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and for driving with a blood alcohol concentration level of 80 or more.

The suspect received a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

He is scheduled to appear in court in Haileybury on March 4.
