A 21-year-old from Sturgeon Falls has been charged with stunt driving and is accused of exceeding the speed limit by 58 km/h.
In a news release Wednesday, Ontario Provincial Police said the incident took place Jan. 7 at 11:55 p.m. on Highway 69 in French River.
"The vehicle was travelling at a speed of 168 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone," the OPP said.
"The driver was issued a 30-day driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days."
Police remind drivers that night driving is already more perilous and presents "unique challenges for all road users.
"At night, your reaction time is reduced. Speeding limits your ability to see and react to hazards, such as wildlife, pedestrians, or debris on the road," police said.
Speeding means it takes long to stop and react to unexpected situations.
"Fatigue is more common at night. Coupled with speeding, it can lead to catastrophic consequences," the release said.

"Speed limits are set for ideal conditions. At night, slower speeds may be necessary."
It's also more difficult to see pedestrians and wildlife.
"Remember, speeding in the dark does not just put you at risk, it endangers everyone on the road," the OPP said.
"Let us work together to keep our roads safe."
