Moosonee man facing weapons, domestic charges

A 23-year-old Moosonee man is facing criminal charges after Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed an arrested warrant on Thursday.

As a result of an investigation, the accused has been charged with several domestic and weapons related offences including two counts of spousal assault, unlawful confinement, unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a weapon in a careless manner, two counts of prohibited possession of a firearm by reason of release order, two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking and two counts of failing to comply with probation orders.

“Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim,” said the OPP in a news release Saturday.

“If you or someone you know is living in or involved in an abusive relationship, help is available. Contact Mushkegowuk Victim Services 24/7 for support, advice or the safety of a shelter at 1-844-264-4208. In emergent situations, call 9-1-1.”

The accused was held for bail in Timmins but released with conditions. They are scheduled to appear in court in Moosonee on May 2.

None of the allegations has been proven in court.
