Sudbury psychotherapist Betty Ann McPherson was at an appointment at Health Sciences North when she received the call that she won the April 50-50 jackpot Friday.
"I was at HSN for an ultrasound when I got the call," McPherson is quoted as saying in a social media post by the hospital foundation.
"Naturally, I didn't answer, but when they called back and I was out of the appointment, I walked right over to the Foundations' office to make sure it wasn't a prank call."
She is taking home $559,158 in prize money with her winning ticket.
"I've been buying HSN 50/50 tickets since the start of the draw and I've received really excellent care at HSN over the years. Buying tickets was an easy way for me to show my appreciation for everything HSN does," McPherson said.
"I never thought I would actually win!"
Tickets for the next draw are already on sale and the draw is June 1.
New this month is a "May-only" ticket price, $200 will get you 1,650 entries into the draw.

OTHER DRAWS AROUND THE NORTHEAST
In Timmins, winning ticket number AF-19801855 was drawn Friday for the jackpot worth $151,920.
The deadline for the next monthly draw at Timmins and District Hospital is May 25 at 11:59 p.m.
The monthly 50-50 draw at Sault Area Hospital is also being drawn Friday with a jackpot of more than $72,000.
Next month's draw in Sault Ste. Marie is already open and the deadline is May 31 at 9:30 a.m.
In North Bay, the winning ticket drawn for the $53,065 April grand prize is AA-7796153.
The North Bay Region Health Centre Foundation's next bi-monthly draw is June 30.
