Man charged in North Bay stabbing was out on bail for other charges, police say

A 27-year-old has been charged following a stabbing Wednesday morning in North Bay that sent on person to hospital with serious injuries.

North Bay police say a man who was out on bail for several serious previous charges has been charged in a stabbing early Wednesday morning.

Officers were called to a disturbance on Gladstone Avenue around 12:40 a.m. and found a man suffering from stab wounds, North Bay Police Service said in a news release Thursday morning.

The man was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, police said they learned the 27-year-old accused had caused damage to a vehicle and assaulted someone in the driveway of a home on the same street more than an hour before the stabbing.

“The accused left the area, returning approximately 1.5 hours later, at which time he smashed a window and gained entry to the residence,” police said.

“Once inside, an altercation ensued and the accused stabbed the victim, an adult male, with an edged weapon.”

The suspect allegedly stole the victim’s backpack and fled the area.

He was later found and arrested without incident.

The victim and accused are known to each other, police spokesperson Merv Shantz said in an email.

The accused is charged with breaking, entering and committing aggravated assault, robbery, assault, carrying a concealed weapon, mischief, six counts of failing to comply with a release order and two counts each of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and driving while suspended.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
