A family from Kirkland Lake is starting the new year off with a thrill, winning more than half a million dollars in the monthly Timmins and District Hospital Foundation 50-50 draw.
Carol Judd and her three daughters, Kimberly, Kristy and Tammy are celebrating the $531,700 prize, the second biggest jackpot since the hospital started doing the draw.
Carol's family has benefitted from the hospital's care, the hospital foundation said in a news release, and while celebrating a milestone birthday on Christmas Eve, she suggested going in on a ticket together.
There are talks of a family trip this summer, paying off some debts and spending more time with a new trailer.
The foundation said its half of the money from the December draw will fund part of a locum ophthalmology clinic.
In January, the proceeds from the draw will go toward purchasing a third ultrasound unit for the hospital's medical imaging department.
