Inquest announced into man’s 2020 death at Elliot Lake probation office

An inquest has been called into the 2020 death of Robert Shane Rhodes, 49, after an interaction with OPP officers at an Elliot Lake probation and parole office.

The supervising coroner for northern Ontario has announced plans for an inquest into the April 20, 2020, death of Robert Shane Rhodes.

Rhodes, 49, died following an interaction with Ontario Provincial Police officers at Elliot Lake Probation and Parole Office.

Dr. Harry Voogjarv from the provincial coroner’s Sudbury office said the exact date and venue for the inquest will be announced later.

An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

“The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Rhodes’ death,” said a news release from the coroner’s office.

“The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.”
