Officers were called to the scene around 10:18 p.m. in the Ivanhoe Lake area, near Foleyet, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Tuesday morning.

One driver is deceased and the other driver was not injured, OPP Const. Rob Sanchioni told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email Tuesday morning.

“Investigation is ongoing, so no cause of the collision (has) yet (been) determined,” Sanchioni said.

The road has been closed between Chapleau and Foleyet, a stretch of nearly 100 kilometres, as police investigate.

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) 511 traveller’s website said the road is closed in both directions from Young Street/Hwy. 7072 in Foleyet to N Junction Hwy. 129 in Chapleau since 1 a.m.

“Assisting with the investigation are members of the OPP technical collision investigators (TCI),” police said.

The road reopened early Wednesday morning, OPP said in an update on social media around 1:41 a.m. Feb. 26.

“OPP TCI at the scene completing (its) investigation before (the) highway can be partially or fully opened,” Sanchioni said.

Crash on Highway 11

A crash on Highway 11 closed that road for several hours Tuesday morning.

Shortly before 3 a.m., OPP announced the road closure between Long Lac and Labelle Street in Hearst.

More than an hour later, the closure was extended from Hearst to Government Road in Kapuskasing.

The road reopened shortly before 7 a.m., OPP said on social media.

Meanwhile, the MTO’s map shows a crash in the northbound lane of Hwy. 11 at Flynn Lake Sign in Longlac with a start time of 9:19 a.m.

It is unclear if the two crashes on Hwy. 11 are related, but it appears one lane is closed in the Longlac area.
