Officials in Sault Ste. Marie lifted the city’s open-air burning ban, effective 9 a.m. Wednesday. “Only those with a valid fire permit will be permitted to burn,” fire officials said in a news release. “Sault Fire Services would like to remind all citizens to burn with caution and follow the provisions of the open-air burning for the Municipality of Sault Ste. Marie. Failure to follow the provisions of open-air burning can lead to permit suspension or rescission.” With the ban lifted, residents can renew or obtain fire permits online, where details about the city’s open-air burning policies can be found. “Certified propane and natural gas fire pits, fireplaces, and/or fire tables do not require an open-air burning permit,” the release said.
