One person has died and two were taken to hospital following a crash on Highway 11 in northern Ontario over the weekend.
Emergency crews were called to a collision between a commercial and passenger vehicle in Greenstone shortly after 11:30 a.m. April 12, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.
The driver of the passenger vehicle, a 25-year-old male from Caledon, was pronounced deceased at the scene, OPP Const. Hayley Mcleary told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email.
A passenger and the driver of the commercial vehicle were both injured and taken to hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.
Police have not said what caused the crash, but an investigation is continuing.
“While the investigation is ongoing, the OPP does not anticipate any charges resulting from this collision,” police said.
“Investigations resulting in the loss of life and serious injuries can be complex to investigate. As the vast majority of collisions are preventable, thorough and accurate investigations help ensure that motorists who cause these collisions are held accountable for their driving behaviours. The victims and their families deserve no less.”
Highway 11 was closed for more than eight hours Saturday.
