Elliot Lake resident charged with ‘identity fraud,’ accused of unauthorized use of local transportation services

A 45-year-old from Elliot Lake is facing multiple charges after provincial police investigated reports of fraud in the city.

On Jan. 23, following an investigation, officers “arrested a person after a fraud,” Ontario Provincial Police said in a social media post.

The investigation began on Jan. 21.

“Police received a complaint regarding a person using unauthorized transportation services in Elliot Lake between January 6 and January 20,” OPP said.

Police said approximately $450 was used fraudulently.

The local was charged with personation with intent to gain advantage, commonly referred to as identity fraud, and failing to comply with a probation order.

The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on March 13.
