Drug charges follow reports of assault with a firearm in Moosonee

A 25-year-old from Brampton has been charged after the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report Oct. 18 of a firearm being pointed at a victim in Moosonee.

Police responded around 10:30 a.m., along with paramedics from the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority, to the incident on Moose Drive in the community.

“Upon arrival, police were informed that a firearm had been pointed at a victim, followed by a physical assault,” the OPP said in a news release Wednesday morning.

“Officers observed two individuals leaving the area through nearby backyards. Both were arrested, and one was identified as the accused.”

A search uncovered drugs believed to be cocaine, fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and crack cocaine, as well as drug paraphernalia and cash.

A suspect from Brampton has been charged with pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, drug trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee.
