Driver going the wrong way on Hwy. 17 leads to head-on collision

Head-on collision on Hwy. 17 Minor injuries were reported after a head-on collision Tuesday on Highway 17 in involving a vehicle travelling in the wrong direction.

There were only minor injuries when an SUV travelling in the wrong direction on Highway 17 in Sudbury collided with a pickup truck.

Ontario Provincial Police said the crash happened Tuesday just after 1 p.m. Police and paramedics responded to the two-vehicle collision.

“Minor injuries were reported after a head-on collision with a pickup truck and a sports utility vehicle,” the OPP said in a news release Wednesday.

“The SUV was travelling the wrong way on the westbound ramp onto Highway 17, from Highway 69.”

A 70-year-old from Sudbury has been charged with unsafely changing lanes.

Both westbound lanes were closed for about an hour during the investigation and the removal of the vehicles.
