“The interaction started as an impaired driving investigation,” said police in a social media post.
“But that transitioned when it became clear that Luc's driving was affected by a medical episode – not impairment.”
The driver, Luc, was on a cross-country journey with his beloved dog, Gracie.
After the traffic stop, he was transported to hospital to receive the care he needed.
Gracie was sent to the Cochrane animal shelter until Tuesday afternoon while Luc was being treated.
“Although Gracie had a long wait, she was full of energy and excitement when reunited with Luc,” said OPP officials.

Members of the detachment said they were happy to report that Luc was doing well and was grateful for the help and care he received.
“Safe travels, Luc,” said OPP Const. Kyler Brouwer.
“We're glad to see you and Gracie back on the road together.”
