Arrest made two weeks after loaded handgun pointed at an ex-partner

A 28-year-old from Iron Bridge, Ont., is facing multiple charges after an investigation into a weapons-related incident in Blind River, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

Police said their investigation stemmed from an incident about two weeks ago, in which an individual allegedly pointed a loaded handgun at their ex-partner at a residence in Blind River.

The accused was subject to a release order at the time, which prohibited contact with the ex-partner, possessing of firearms and required them to remain at their residence in Iron Bridge.

Authorities attended a residence on Old Highway 17 in Mississauga First Nation on March 16 at about 12:45 p.m. Upon the arrival of the officers, the individual fled from the rear of the house, prompting a police pursuit.

“The OPP’s canine unit subsequently tracked the individual to another residence on Shingwauk Street,” said police.

An air pistol or BB-style pellet handgun was seized during the arrest.

The 28-year-old has been charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, three additional firearm-related offences, and seven counts of failing to comply with a release order.

“Due to the domestic nature of the incident, the name of the accused will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.” OPP said.

The accused remanded following a bail hearing on Monday.
