21st annual Luncheon of Hope The Northern Cancer Foundation hosts its 21st annual Luncheon of Hope in support of breast cancer research.

SUDBURY – The Cancer Foundation held its 21st annual 'Luncheon of Hope' on September 27 in support of breast cancer research.

This year's keynote speaker was Sharon Hampson, whose singing trio 'Sharon, Lois & Bram' was named to the 'Order of Canada'.

Hampson shared her story of being a three-time breast cancer survivor herself.

"I'd sung on stage for thousands of people, but I'd never stood on a stage and talked about my personal life. But it was good for me, as hopefully it was for the people listening to it, because I didn't feel like a victim. I felt like I was doing something with this situation," said Hampson.

"They're realizing that they're not alone. So everybody in the hallway is here together to support each other and support anybody who has ever had breast cancer. The funds are all raised to support the cancer centre, their cancer centre, the local cancer centre! So I think it's a really strong message that really resonates," said Tannys Laughren, Northern Cancer Foundation.

$73 thousand was raised and the money will go towards new equipment for the Health Sciences North Research Institute.
