Police in Oak Bay say the investigation into a brutal attack involving a machete inside a waterfront home near Willows Beach last month is progressing but no arrest has been made.

A 45-year-old woman was home alone on April 25 when she was surprised by a man she didn’t know inside her kitchen.

Police say he used a weapon that could have been a machete.

The woman suffered serious injuries to her upper body and was taken to hospital for surgery.

Officials call the attack an “isolated incident” that doesn’t happen regularly in Greater Victoria.

“It’s not a race, we’re doing everything we can as diligently and comprehensively as we can,” Sgt. Rob Smith said. “[There’s] no reason to think the public is at risk whatsoever.”

Officers from Oak Bay are working with Saanich police on the case.

The woman says her attacker was a white man in his 20s and he was wearing a brown jacket, khaki pants and a blue and white bandana.
