A man has been arrested after what police described as a brazen home invasion on Vancouver Island.

RCMP say a man allegedly forced his way into a family residence with a firearm while the family was at home on Tuesday evening.

Police say he stole an undisclosed amount of money and left.

Officials say the home was targeted by the 30-year-old Nanaimo man.

Another man was also taken into police custody, but was later released without charges.

Christopher Chesnic has been charged and no longer poses a threat to the public, but police are still asking for witnesses to come forward.
