Amber Schinkel

CTV News Vancouver Island Anchor

Anchor

Amber is a news anchor and reporter with CTV News Vancouver Island. She joined the team in November 2017 after working for more than a decade with Global News in Alberta; first in Lethbridge and then Calgary.

A graduate of Mount Royal University's Broadcasting program in 2006, Amber started her career in radio with 660 News in Calgary. The lure of television news reporting took her briefly to Swift Current, Saskatchewan before settling in Lethbridge in 2007 then Calgary in 2009. Some of the more memorable events she has covered include the devastating floods across Southern Alberta in 2013, a CF-18 fighter jet crash at the Alberta International Airshow in Lethbridge in 2010, and Prince William and Catherine's visit to Alberta and the Northwest Territories in 2011.

Amber grew up northwest of Calgary on a farm and loves the outdoors. She's looking forward to exploring all the island has to offer in camping, hiking and fishing with her husband, Brendan, and dog, Hatch. She is also an avid equestrian, but her horse, Wizard, hasn't yet made the move.
