"Firefighters were called to the scene," said Véronique Dubuc, a spokesperson with Montreal police. "They quickly brought the fire under control."

She notes that the vehicle is a total loss, but there was no damage to the surrounding property.

"According to preliminary information that police officers have, a suspect was observed near the vehicle when the fire broke out," said Dubuc. "He fled on foot before police arrived."

There were no reported injuries, and the investigation continues.
