SUV goes up in flames in Montreal’s West Island

Montreal police (SPVM) is investigating after a vehicle was set on fire in Kirkland on Montreal’s West Island.

The incident happened at 1:50 a.m. Monday behind a company located on the Transcanadienne service road near Houde Street.

“We’re considering the vehicle as a total loss,” said Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson with Montreal police. “There was some incendiary element that was found by the fire department.”

Brabant adds that witnesses saw at least one suspect leaving the scene before the fire.

There were no reported injuries and there have been no arrests.

The vehicle is being towed for inspection, and investigators are onsite to gather information.

The file has been transferred to the Montreal police arson unit.
