A Quebec City woman, 33, was arrested on Saturday after police found a three-year-old boy unconscious.

Quebec City police (SPVQ) officers assisted paramedics with the child at around 2:18 p.m. at a residence on Bernatchez Avenue in the Vanier sector of the city.

“Police officers and paramedics rushed to the scene, and the child was quickly transported to a hospital where his condition is currently considered stable,” the SPVQ said in a news release. “The three-year-old child is believed to have ingested a liquid drug and is now safe. The incident occurred inside the family home.”

The SPVQ said the boy’s mother was arrested for criminal negligence and released on a promise to appear in court.

Youth protection (DPJ) intervened in the case.

SPVQ investigators and the forensic identification unit were also on the scene to determine the causes and circumstances leading to the child’s injury.

Witnesses were also interviewed.
