Longtime chief CTV Montreal anchor Mutsumi Takahashi was awarded the King Charles III Medal at a ceremony in Montreal on Thursday for her contribution to excellence in broadcasting and community involvement.

The award recognizes Canadians who have made a “significant” impact on their communities and left a lasting legacy.

Takahashi was honoured during a special ceremony at the Royal Montreal Regiment.

“She is a trusted voice in Quebec’s English language media and plays a vital role in keeping the community informed,” said Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Westmount MP Anna Gaine as she presented the award.

Last year, the veteran broadcaster was also recognized with the Citizen of Honour by the City of Montreal. Additionally, in 2018 she was named to the Order of Canada and serves as a citizenship judge, presiding over ceremonies to swear in new Canadians.

Born in Shiroishi, Japan, Takahashi began working as a news reporter at CFCF 12 — now CTV News Montreal — in 1982, becoming the anchor four years later. She currently anchors the 6 p.m. weekday newscast.
