Three more strike days are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in 400 public daycares, also known as centres de la petite enfance (CPE), in Quebec.
These are the 11th, 12th and 13th strike days for unionized workers of the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) affiliated Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS).
Negotiations were held on the weekend to avoid a strike, but “the parties did not reached an agreement,” the FSSS announced on social media Sunday evening. “Intense negotiations are continuing to reach an agreement as quickly as possible.”
Discussions between the Quebec government and the FSSS began several months ago.
Last week, FSSS representative for early childhood centres, Stéphanie Vachon, said that salary was the only thing standing in the way of a settlement.
Three other union organizations involved in the negotiations have already renewed their collective agreements.
Of the unions involved, the FSSS has the largest number of daycare workers.
