1 dead, 1 injured after collision at car wash north of Montreal

One employee died and a building was damaged when a car lined up at a car wash accelerated.

One man is dead and another injured after a collision at a car wash business in Laval Tuesday morning.

The crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. at the Lave Auto Pont Viau near the intersection of Laurentides and Concordes boulevards in the city’s Pont-Viau district.

According to police, a 72-year-old man was in line at the hand car wash when, for a reason that remains unclear, he rear-ended the car in front of him.

Erika Landry, a Laval police spokesperson, told CTV News that car struck the building, causing part of the structure to collapse.

During the collision, a 50-year-old man was struck and killed. Another man, a 38-year-old man, was also hit and suffered minor injuries.

Officers are trying to determine whether or not both men were employees.

Police are on scene and say the investigation is ongoing.

Quebec’s workplace safety board, the CNESST, is also investigating, according to Laval police.
