A pedestrian was rushed to hospital after she was hit by a truck in Central Saanich Monday morning.

According to police on scene, the driver was turning left off Wallace Drive onto West Saanich Road and didn't see the woman crossing in a marked crosswalk.

The driver stopped when he realized he had hit someone, police said.

The woman was transported to hospital with what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses at the scene said there appeared to be a large amount of blood on the road.

Officers said drugs, alcohol and speed were not factors.

West Saanich Road was shut down in both directions for hours as police investigated the scene.
