Following a stormy Monday, new weather warnings are in effect today for Vancouver Island today.
East Vancouver Island between Nanoose Bay and Fanny Bay looks like it'll get soaked. Rain will be heavy at times, amounting to 50 millimetres by Wednesday morning. Officials warn that localized flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas.
If you're between Qualicum Beach and Fanny Bay, you're probably going to get the highest amounts of rain in the next 24 hours.
Since midnight, the weather stations at Nanoose Elementary and Qualicum Beach Middle School have reported nearly 15 millimetres of rain, while the rain gauge at Bowser Elementary has collected more than 35 millimetres of rain!
New wind warnings have been issued for Greater Victoria as a strong cold front approaches the South Coast this evening.
In advance of the front, southeasterly winds are expected to increase to 70 kilometres an hour, gusting to nearly 90 km/h at times. Those high winds could be damaging, tossing loose objects or downing tree branches.
Winds will be especially strong over exposed coastal sections, and through southern parts of Howe Sound.

Today’s stormy weather follows a blustery start to the week. Monday an intense low pressure system crossed the island. The first front swept over early in the morning, then later in the day the parent low crossed Vancouver Island near Port Alberni. As a result, winds intensified early in the day, then eased a bit, then intensified again around midday.
