A 57-year-old man was rushed to hospital following an apparent targeted shooting in Courtenay early Tuesday evening.

Police were called to the 900-block of Salsbury Road at around 4:20 p.m. for a report of a shooting.

Once there they found the victim, a Courtenay resident, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed him to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The shooter was not found, and major crimes investigators were on scene taking measurements on the road and searching a home in the area.

A canine unit was also brought in to help sniff for clues.

RCMP were seen transporting evidence containers away from the scene.

Police said the shooting appears targeted and say an investigation is ongoing.
