A driver became trapped in his car after striking a power pole in a rollover crash on West Saanich Road.
Saanich police and paramedics responded to the crash in the 5600-block of West Saanich Road near Willis Point Road at around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say the driver lost control and the car flipped into a ditch, trapping him inside. He was eventually freed and taken to hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries.
Smoke was reportedly seen coming from the car engine.
BC Hydro crews were also called to the scene because the hydro pole was sheared and looked like it could collapse.
The crash shut down West Saanich Road near Willis Point Road with no estimated time for reopening.
Early indications were that alcohol, drugs or speed were not factors in the incident.
