A Salt Spring Island woman is looking for help after she says she accidentally handed over a diamond ring to a man she was donating spare change to.

Trinda Gayek stopped to ask a man who she says looked like he could use some help if he needed money in Nanaimo on Wednesday.

“This person didn’t take the ring, he didn’t steal the ring,” Gayek said. “There’s no criminal intent here. This is just one of those situations and I sure would like to get the ring back.”

The B.C. woman says she dumped all the change from her wallet into her hand and passed it over to the man.

She forgot she had placed her diamond ring there too and says she’s positive she accidentally handed it to him with the change.

“He seemed very appreciative that I asked him if needed some money and I’m really hopeful that the message will get to him and that I’ll get my ring back,” Gayek added.

Anyone who has the ring is asked to drop it off at the Nanaimo Salvation Army Community Services Centre.

Gayek says people with information on its whereabouts can also call her directly at 250-538-8061.
