A Sooke man who hasn’t been seen since Wednesday has been found dead, according to his family.

Michael Gregory Widner, 39, was reported missing on Saturday.

On the weekend, Widner’s black 2003 Volgswagen Golf was found abandoned at Poirier Lake near Sooke.

In a Monday Facebook post that has since been deleted, a member of Widner’s family said police informed them his body had been found.

A memorial Facebook page for Widner has already been created.

Body found, but identity not confirmed

Investigators confirmed that a body had been found near Port Renfrew but would not comment on whether it was Widner’s.

RCMP said a hiker found the body on March 12 and contacted police. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.

Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit, Sooke RCMP and BC Coroner's Service are investigating.

An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
