The 44-year-old man found guilty of sexually assaulting two University of Victoria students in their Saanich home in 2016 has been sentenced to eight years in jail.

Late last month, David Robert Hope was found guilty of seven charges against him including break and enter, unlawful confinement or imprisonment, two counts of sexual assault and two counts of robbery.

Court heard Hope broke into an apartment on Jan. 27, 2016 and attacked and sexually assaulted two UVic international students inside.

Hope led the pair to a nearby bank machine, where they managed to escape and flee to a nearby Starbucks.

He was arrested two months later in Saskatoon and brought back to Victoria for the trial.

Hope will get credit for two years and 11 months of jail time already served, meaning he'll remain behind bars for another five years and one month.
