A Courtenay man has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody following the death of a 25-year-old man last week.

Police were called to a home in the 500-block of 6th Street in the early hours of Sunday, June 30 for a report of an altercation.

They found the deceased man outside of the home and arrested 37-year-old Jonathan Walter Billy several blocks from the scene.

Police said Billy and the victim, 25-year-old Troy Matthew Emmons, were known to each other.

He appeared in court June 30 and was expected to appear before a judge again Tuesday.

An autopsy on the victim has been scheduled for later this week.

The Comox Valley RCMP General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Service are still investigating the case.
