Nanaimo RCMP say attempted murder charges have been laid against a 27-year-old man accused in a weekend stabbing that sent another man to hospital.

Officers were called to a townhouse complex in the 500-block of Fifth Street on Saturday and arrived to find a 25-year-old man who had been stabbed several times.

He was rushed to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. As of Wednesday, investigators said he was still recovering and is expected to remain in care for at least another week.

Police arrested Matthew Dean Tremblay, a Nanaimo resident, at the scene and announced Wednesday he had been charged with attempted murder.

Tremblay made a court appearance Tuesday and will remain in custody until his next court date on Tues., April 17.

Police aren't releasing any more details on the stabbing, saying the matter is now before the courts.
