A police standoff on the West Shore that stretched on for hours Saturday ended with a 36-year-old suspect taken into custody.

The incident, which police called a “crisis situation,” drew a heavy police presence around Veteran’s Memorial Parkway in Langford around 5 p.m.

A witness told CTV News that the man, who was acting erratically with a gun, fired shots at one point.

Vancouver Island’s Emergency Response Team, police dogs, paramedics and crisis negotiators were all called in to help with the situation.

People were told to avoid the area around Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, Jenkins Road, Jacklin Road, and Station Avenue, bring traffic in some areas to a crawl.

Three hours after police were called, the 36-year-old was taken into custody.

No other details about the incident have been confirmed by police.
