‘We will not be dodging the snow’: Meteorological winter arrives in southern Ontario

Meteorologist Julie Atchison has the latest forecast for the London area

Meteorological winter arrives with winter like conditions in the London region.

“We are under the influence of high pressure, but a lot of low cloud to contend with,” said CTV News London meteorologist Julie Atchison. “Aa big area of low pressure will be sliding by to the south, bringing some moisture up into the Great Lakes and with it some snowfall in the forecast.

The system is just starting to get organized and we’re starting to see a bit of snowfall in through Indiana and just spreading its way Illinois.

“That low pressure area cruises through the Ohio Valley tonight with a swath of snowfall,” said Atchison. “Snow coming into the area tonight anytime after nine to 10 p.m. In London, it’ll continue into tomorrow morning. So this is not snow squalls, but an area of snowfall. So this is the kind of snow that you will have to shovel. We will not be dodging the snow, although snowfall amounts will be on the lower end.”

The main snow will be along that northern shoreline of Lake Erie, and it will squeak its way towards Hamilton and Toronto.

Atchison added, “An Arctic cold front arrives Wednesday night with flurries and temperatures dropping. We have some bitterly cold air that will arrive the coldest air of the season and winter like minus eight to minus 13 for the overnight lows.”

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud. Wind up to 15 km/h. High minus 1. Wind chill near minus 5.

Monday Night: Cloudy. Periods of snow beginning late this evening. Amount 2 to 4 cm. Wind up to 15 km/h. Low minus 6. Wind chill near minus 8.

Tuesday: Periods of snow ending in the morning then mainly cloudy. Wind up to 15 km/h. High zero. Wind chill minus 8 in the morning.

Wednesday: Cloudy. High minus 2.

Thursday: Sunny. High minus 5.

Friday: Sunny. High minus 3.
