Spring storm expected to bring sheets of ice to parts of the region

A spring storm could bring heavy rainfall to parts of the region today, CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has the details.

A spring storm could bring heavy rainfall to parts of the region today, with some weather watches and warnings in more northern reaches of the area.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of Grey and Bruce Counties, calling for freezing rain Saturday night into Sunday.

Bruce Peninsula, Sauble Beach and Tobermory are all currently under a freezing rain warning.

“You could be in for some freezing rain… anywhere from Parry Sound east towards Kingston, Kingston and toward the Ottawa area,” warned CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “This is storm could really pack a punch in a multi day ice accretion event possibility of 5 to 15 millimeters of ice accretion”

That weather system is expected to move through Friday evening, continuing into Saturday.

“Huron and Perth County, you’ll be on the mild side of this system as well,” cautioned Atchison.

We are expecting milder weather in the southern part of the region and the London area this weekend, with temperatures expected to remain in the double digits during the day.

Saturday: Cloudy with 40 per cent chance of showers in the morning and early in the afternoon. Periods of rain beginning in the afternoon. High 17.

Monday: Cloudy with 70 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries. High plus 2.
