Special weather statement issued ahead of significant rainfall this week

CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has an update after a damaging ice storm moved through parts of southern Ontario this weekend.

Southern Ontario is under a special weather statement. According to Environment Canada, significant rainfall is expected midweek.

Beginning Wednesday morning, heavy rainfall amounting up to 30 to 50 mm is possible across parts of the region. Thunderstorms are also possible.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is a possibility as well.

Conditions are expected to improve by Thursday morning.

This past weekend, the London, Ont. region caught the mild side of an ice storm that moved through southern Ontario.

“We picked up the rainfall, but areas just northeast of Toronto seeing some significant ice accretion,” explained CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “Adding to that, [Monday] we’re dealing with strong gusty winds.”

Atchison also says temperatures are set to drop Monday afternoon, however, “We are expecting a nice mix of sun and cloud by [Tuesday] afternoon.”

Monday night: Cloudy. 30 per cent chance of flurries overnight. Wind northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low minus 1.

Tuesday: Clearing in the morning. Wind north 20 km/h becoming light in the afternoon. High plus 4.

Wednesday: Showers or thunderstorms. Windy. High 9.

Thursday: Cloudy. Windy. High 18.

Friday: A mix of sun and cloud. High 14.
