Special weather statement in effect, heavy rain on the way

A special weather statement covers most of Ontario, stretching from Windsor-Essex, through the London area and up into North Bay.

According to Environment Canada, significant rainfall is expected Saturday evening through Sunday night.

There is the risk of flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads is also possible. With most of the ground still being frozen, there will be reduced ability for the precipitation to be absorbed.

There is also the risk of thunderstorms in some areas with rainfall in excess of 40 mm possible in some areas.

Friday: Mainly sunny. Wind becoming southeast 20 km/h late this morning. High 18. UV index 5 or moderate.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy. Wind southeast 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Wind becoming south 30 gusting to 50 late this evening. Low 11.

Saturday: Mainly cloudy with 60 per cent chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm. Wind south 20 km/h gusting to 40 increasing to 40 gusting to 60 late in the morning. High 19. UV index 5 or moderate.

Sunday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of showers. Windy. High 13.

Monday: A mix of sun and cloud. High plus 3.

Tuesday: A mix of sun and cloud. High 10.
