Snow squall watch issued for London region

Snow squall watches and a cold weekend ahead CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison has the details on a snow squall watch and bitterly cold temps coming our way.

A snow squall watch is in effect for Middlesex County, Lambton County, Huron, and southern Bruce. This is due to the system snow that's moved through, associated with a clipper that is now driving off to the south.

"The squalls will be very localized, so there's one expected to develop just outside of London," said CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. "However, it could shift some flurries into the city."

Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations near 10 cm is possible, especially near Lake Huron.

The snow squall is expected to hit overnight Friday and last into Saturday, worsening travel conditions.

Atchison warns it’s going to get very cold this weekend, “Temperatures minus 2 to minus 4, but wind chills out there feeling more like minus 6 to minus 11 and wind chills overnight anywhere from minus 10 to a minus 12."

Saturday: Flurries. Risk of snow squalls over western sections in the morning. Local amount 5 cm over western sections. Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40 in the morning. High minus 6. Wind chill minus 9 in the morning and minus 14 in the afternoon.

Sunday: A mix of sun and cloud. High minus 5.

Monday: Cloudy. High minus 2.

Tuesday (Christmas Eve): Cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers. High plus 2.
