Oxford Street West traffic impacted as flooding mitigation project advances to August

Lane restrictions continue this week on Oxford Street West between Proudfoot Lane and Beaverbrook Avenue as work continues on the Mud Creek infrastructure project.

Work on the project that started in 2024, is expected to run through to the end of August. It is aimed at addressing both existing and future flooding concerns in the area while improving stormwater management and environmental conditions along the corridor.

Crews are currently removing an outdated, undersized culvert and installing new infrastructure, including storm sewers, watermain upgrades, curbs, gutters and sidewalks. Roadway and boulevard restoration work is also underway.

On the north side of Oxford Street, channel remediation work is ongoing alongside the installation of new trunk storm sewers. the natural environment.

Once complete, the city said the project will significantly alter the existing channel, creating a more effective waterway capable of handling drainage from a large surrounding area.

The work is expected to reduce the frequency of flooding, improve the ecological health of the corridor and add a new multi-use pathway for residents along the creek.

Drivers are being advised to plan ahead and expect delays in the construction zone.
