A multi-vehicle crash on the eastbound lanes of Highway 401, near Highbury Road, caused commuter chaos Friday afternoon.

Middlesex OPP say the crash involved four vehicles, but there were no injuries.

The cleanup was a challenge though. One lane was closed initially, but all three lanes had to be closed as fire crews cleaned up debris and spilled fluids from the road surface and vehicles were pulled away by tow trucks.

That backed up traffic on the 401 and the 402 for kilometers.

They were able to open the highway up again around 3 p.m.
