New rules for short-term rentals in London take effect today. As part of the changes through the city, hosts will be limited to one short-term rental and one short-term rental licence. Hosts also cannot own or partly own more than one home or unit used as a short-term rental. “These changes help protect housing in London and support responsible hosting in our neighbourhoods,” says Amanda Pfeffer, director of municipal compliance. “Hosts are responsible for making sure their rentals are licensed and follow City rules. That includes being ready for the new limits on Oct. 1.” Short-term rentals include homes or rooms rented for stays of 28 days or less. Hosts already need a City business licence before advertising a rental or welcoming guests. The rental must be at the address where the host lives. The licence number must be included in all ads and listings. Residents can check whether a rental is licensed on the City’s website. To report concerns about an unlicensed rental or nuisance issues, call Municipal Compliance at 519-930-3515 or email licensing@london.ca.
