Man charged after cutting down $27,000 of trees on conservation authority land

Huron County OPP have laid charges against a man of no fixed address after he cut down 27 mature trees, and began constructing a log home.

According to police, on March 31 they received a complaint regarding the removal of trees in a forested area owned by the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) in the area of Victoria and Helena streets near Wingham.

The conservation authority estimates that total losses of trees planted decades ago amount to roughly $27,000.

Police investigated and arrested a suspect on April 13. A 34-year-old is now facing charges.
