The temporary shutdown of General Motors’ CAMI plant in Ingersoll started Monday.
The facility will close for three weeks before briefly reopening in May for limited production. Operations will then be put on hold until October.
After that, there will be just one shift at the plant for the foreseeable future.
The union that represents workers at the facility said the decision by GM means the indefinite layoff of nearly 500 employees.
According to GM, the move because of lower-than-expected demand for its electric delivery vehicles and not because of U.S. tariffs.
