Hanover resident charged with impaired driving, open cans of alcohol discovered in vehicle

A Hanover resident will be without a licence for the next three months after allegedly driving intoxicated with open cans of alcohol in their vehicle on Monday.

According to a social media post from OPP West Region, Grey Bruce OPP responded to a traffic complaint on Monday regarding a vehicle that was swerving as it traveled northbound on Highway 6 toward Chatsworth.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Police say that during the traffic stop, officers detected a strong smell of alcohol.

A 42‑year‑old from Hanover was arrested and has since been charged with the following offences:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol
• Operation while impaired – 80 plus
• Operation while prohibited
• Open container of liquor (LLCA)

As a result, the driver will have their licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle will be impounded for 45 days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on June 11.
