The owners of Goderich’s salt mine are facing a $75,000 fine following a worker’s injuries during an underground incident in 2022.
Compass Minerals pled guilty this past January after one of their electricians was critically injured during repairs to a flexible conveyor train.
Court heard that on December 19, 2022, a Compass Minerals electrician was injured after thinking the power had been turned off to the machinery when it was not. The conveyor train started unexpectedly, critically injuring the worker.

A Ministry of Labour investigation found that the employer failed to protect workers by not putting up warning signs or barriers around the repair work that was potentially dangerous.
Compass Minerals faces a $75,000 fine and 25 per cent victim surcharge as a result. The case was heard in a Goderich courtroom in January.
