OPP clearing scene following ‘active investigation’ near St. Thomas

Police in Elgin County are clearing the scene following an active near St. Thomas Saturday afternoon.

According to a social media post from OPP West Region, police in Elgin County had advised the public of heavy police presence in the Wellington Road and Highway 3 area just north of St. Thomas for an active investigation.

In an update late afternoon, OPP say the police presence in the area was beginning to decrease and that the situation had “been resolved.”

It remains unclear what the investigation pertained to, but police had advised “If travelling through the area, do not pick up any hitchhikers.”

Police say the investigation continues and updates will be provided at a later time.
